ROGUE PLANET ART GALLERY PRESENTS
Every Angel
is Terrifying
Hail Scissors
28 August–27 September 2026 | Friday-Sunday 11am-3pm.
Opening 4pm Saturday 29 August
For beauty is nothing but the beginning
of terror, which we still are just able to endure,
and we are so awed because it serenely disdains
to annihilate us. Every angel is terrifying.

I’m very interested in how collage holds contradiction, how sometimes distinct, disparate, contrasting or seemingly oppositional images or visual elements cohere; live together in each work.
Unlike metaphor in poetry (my other creative practice) which enables coherence/relationship by asserting an equivalence, a sameness, between one thing and another, collage seems to assert difference is an organising principle in its small-scale world building—difference is a unifying factor.
Understanding this, a kind of structural sense can be made of, or unifying order brought to, its component parts.
Hail Scissors
Hail Scissors is a regionally based—Dja Dja Wurrung Country—collage artist & poet. Their work explores the tensions between beauty & terror & high & low brow art.
