Julian Cornish. Emergence: Studies in Light and Darkness.
Friday June 12 to Sunday July 5, 2026.
Emergence: Studies in Light and Darkness draws together nine works by Lethbridge-based artist Julian Cornish painted over 2024 and 2025. Working in the demanding tradition of Japanese Sumi ink painting, Julian is captivated by the darkness, richness and blur of ink on paper. Yet where tradition dwells in shadow, his work seeks something else: light emerging from dark passages of tone. Often mysterious, these paintings leave room for thought and emotion, reflecting on the times in which we live and the ever-present light that still finds its way into our lives.
We'd love to see you in person at the gallery, or you can browse the artworks online.
Our gallery is open Friday and Saturday 11am to 3pm and Sunday 10am to 1pm.
Can't make it during those times? Appointments to view the show outside gallery hours are welcome, either in person or via FaceTime. Just get in touch to arrange a time.
